I started climbing in 1969 attending a class given by the Rock Climbing Section of the Riverside CA chapter of the Sierra Club. I've been doing it ever since and have been happy to have had many adventures climbing, mostly in North America.
It seems I've always had some camera around and made some images, at least since graduate school. Later, a lab project introduced me to the more scientific aspects of photography, and this lead to a more serious pursuit.
I trained in experimental high energy physics at Columbia University in NYC, and have been fortunate to have pursued both basic and applied science throughout my career. Science has been a source of wonderful ideas which I've hopefully contributed to in my life.
Climbing takes you into the wilderness, and science provides of seeing what is going on their. Both of these interests intersect in considerations of the environment and the challenges of finding a balance between preservation and appreciation.
